1919 – 2003

LEWISTON – Rose A. Yokell, 84, a resident of 1006 Sabattus St., died Tuesday morning, June 24, at her residence following a long illness.

She was born in Lewiston, April 22, 1919, the daughter of Joseph William and Alma (Chouinard) Pelletier. Mrs. Yokell had been a resident of Lewiston all her life, and had been employed in the local shoe industry for 38 years before her retirement.

During World War II, Mrs. Yokell had been employed with the Portland Shipyard as a welder building Liberty Ships during World War II. This was something she was always proud of doing.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Lewiston Senior Citizens, and was past master of the Lewiston Grange 2.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Richard (Janice) Moore of Lewiston, Mrs. Nancy Stanley of Lewiston, Sally Prince and her companion Joseph Maillet of Sabattus, and Mrs. William (Joan) Willette of Wales; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Hill of Bristol, Conn., and Mrs. James (Florence) McKinney of Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Mr. William Pelletier of Waldoboro; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, George Yokell on Sept. 11, 1999; and two sisters, Irene Burkhardt, and Jeannette Pelletier.
