OXFORD – American Legion Post 112 will honor those who fought in the Korean War with a talk and a concert Tuesday, July 1.

Rep. Ted Heidrich, who served in the Marines during Korea, said the evening was scheduled to pay tribute to those who fought in the “forgotten war.”

“I was in Korea for two years and the New York State income tax people sent me a letter saying I didn’t pay taxes,” Heidrich said. “I told them that I was just a little north of Seoul in a bunker, and they would be welcome to come and discuss it.

“We went, came back and then just went on with our lives,” he said. “It seems a lot of people didn’t even know that we were gone.”

Heidrich said Col. Robert Carmichael, chief of staff for the Maine Army National Guard, will give a keynote speech, and then the 195th National Guard Band will perform.

He also said certificates of appreciation will be presented to all Korean War veterans in attendance.

The concert will be held at 7 p.m. in the park by the Anderson Staples American Legion Post 112, which is sponsoring the event.
