Many months ago I was thinking of writing this letter, but I would have used words that could not be printed.

After hearing the recent radio ads glorifying methadone, it hit my last nerve. I cannot keep quiet any longer.

I would like to go into detail how methadone has affected my life, but I cannot. Let me start by saying if you have Medicaid, it’s your free ticket to our state’s legal drug dealer.

Not only does our state pay for methadone, it also provides a ride to the nearest methadone clinic. Isn’t it great that our state provides this service?

It’s my opinion that methadone is not the magic pill or liquid that cures pills, crack or the ever-popular heroin.

I would like our state to take a good long look at what it provides for addicts: a high that’s legal.

If addicts are trusted (yeah, right) they get to take home their methadone. So they get high without going to the clinic.

Come on, wake up! Who are clinics really helping?

My opinion is they’re helping themselves with the state’s money.
