TURNER – The Turner Public Library will sponsor the Fourth of July Festival on the Green, starting at 10 a.m. with a parade which will begin at the River Valley Adult Education Building, continue down Route 117 and ending at Leavitt Area High School.

Immediately following the parade, people will gather on the green to enjoy music, food and games for children. Library volunteers will be serving strawberry shortcake. This year the library has organized a “gently used” book sale featuring selections for all ages. Buyers may want to purchase the library’s sturdy canvas book bags without TPL logo.

The LAHS Junior class will be running the children’s games this year.

The Maine Third Regiment Civil War re-enactment soldiers and camp followers will be parade participants. These folks will be demonstrating their skills on a nearby field after the parade.

During the morning, people are encouraged to visit the Turner Town House and Dort and Meredith Biggs Weld Annual Museum. Profits from this year’s festival will be used to furnish the new reading area. The Turner Public Library will be moving to its permanent home on the third floor of the Leavitt Institute Building in 2004.
