MONMOUTH – More than $36,000 was awarded to Monmouth Academy graduating seniors at recent Class Day exercises.
Rebekah Bubier received the Sen. George Mitchell Scholarship of $1,000 a year (renewable for four years); Arthur and Mabel Chick Scholarship, $1,000; Maine Principals’ Association Scholarship, $1,000; and Augusta Lodge of Elks, $500. She also received a Trustees’ Award of $100 for highest rank in all subjects and Lester M. Andrews Award of $50 for highest rank in mathematics plus plaques for top 10; Charles L. Andrews Award for highest rank for four or more science classes; Maine School Principals’ Association and Stuart L. Foster Award for Most Coachable Girl, Big M Award (229 points).
Second-ranking Emily Gauthier received the Connie Ham Dineen Humanitarian Award of $3,500, which can be followed by the Schulman Scholarship of $6,000 a year for the following three years.
She also received an $80 Trustees’ Award for second highest rank, top 10 plaque, Charles Andrews Plaque, Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Medal, Truman W. Hollis Good Citizenship Award $75, DAR Award, Webber Energy Trophy as Female Athlete of the Year, Bettina S. Davis for soccer, cheerleading and softball, Mt. Valley Conference Academic All-Star for Soccer and Cheering and First Team Academic All Star in Softball.
Third-ranking Lillian O’Donnell received the Dr. Arthur and Marjorie Sprague Scholarship $2,000, Student Council Scholarship $150, National Honor Society $100, Trustees’ Award (third highest rank) $60, Trustees’ Award (English composition) $25, top 10 and graduation speaker plaques, Academic Decathlon/Math Team/Speech Team Plaque, Bettina Davis Medallion (tennis), Mt. Valley Conference Academic All Star (tennis), Drama and Student Council plaques, Speech Award (National Degree of Merit, National Degree of Honor and National Degree of Excellence).
Bethany Perkins: East Monmouth Methodist Auxiliary Scholarship (in memory of Alice Fairchild) $500, Monmouth Lions Scholarship (in memory of Thomas Mallonee) $500, United Church Vestry Scholarship $500 and Thomas E. Phillips Memorial Scholarship by Monmouth Community Players $800.
