AUBURN – The Child Health Center’s Auburn Preschool held a trike-a-thon in support of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Head teacher Sue Lake stated, “We were not trying to raise large amounts of money. Our goal was simply to help give our children the sense of helping other children who are not as fortunate. Last year the preschool was able to purchase new trikes and this year we are excited to be able to use these trikes to help out other children.”

Children rode their trikes as many times as they wanted around the path and the teachers added a little extra to the event by making it a learning experience.

As the riders made their way around the course, a friendly farmer, Amber Sutton, teacher aide, greeted them periodically with a stop and go sign to reinforce safety skills. She also offered them the opportunity to practice their hand writing by asking them to sign a special license, which she handed to each participant.

Actor Danny Thomas established St. Jude’s Hospital to care for children with severe illnesses such as cancer and is the leading center for the study of diseases. The money raised for riding a tricycle around the playground trike path will help support St. Jude’s services.
