I read your article about the noise problem in Minot and, having attended these races, I haven’t seen any reporters from the Sun Journal (June 22).

It seems to me that you portrayed the Hemonds as bad people. These are people who have been there for four generations and now want to keep their land in the family, but people who have moved into the area in the past years want to tell them what to do with their land.

I wonder what the former motorcycle racer would have done if he hadn’t had any places to ride back 30 years ago? Probably would have never been a New England champ!

I understand that not everyone is going to be happy. The Hemonds have bargained in good faith with the selectmen and the DEP to get their license and now, after thousands of dollars are spent, someone is having a problem with noise!

A lot of businesses in the state are gone, like the shoe and textile industries, small farmers and soon-to-be paper industry. Why not let them try to earn a living? It’s not like they are running 24/7 – just a few weekends a year!

The people mentioned in your article who have the problem with noise could move to Millinocket.

The houses are cheap and there is no noise here anymore. The mill is down for now, but God forbid if it tries to start up in 2004.

John Raymond, Millinocket
