Digging and foundation work began last fall.

LEWISTON – The concrete decks are in, but crews won’t finish work on the Park Street parking garage until the end of July.

Public Works Director Dave Jones said crews are concentrating on interior details at the $3.3 million structure.

“There’s still a lot left to do,” Jones said. “They still have to put up the attendants’ booth and finish up inside. And I know they still have some work to do on the outside of the structure. They’ll probably do the landscaping work last.”

The garage replaces a 380-space lot bordered by Park, Bates, Oak and Ash streets. It will be three floors tall, with the third floor built only along the Bates Street side.

When the building is finished, it will be home to a 550-plus-space garage and a 2,000-square-foot, air-conditioned bus station.

The building will be sage green, like the Chestnut Street garage built last year. It’s made of wrought iron and brick with concrete parking decks, according to plans.

Digging and foundation work began last fall, with the structural work continuing throughout the winter. Crews began pouring the concrete for the decks last spring.

Those are in, Jones said.

“But once they finish up the last bits, they still have to do punch-list items,” Jones said. Those could include last-minute details like painting and installing lights.
