1907 – 2003

Brunswick – Lilliane D. Martineau, 96, passed from this life here on earth Sunday, June 29, to spend eternity with her daughter, Constance, and her husband, Adrien P. Martineau.

She was born in Lewiston on May 17, 1907, the only daughter of Pierre P. and Leone Fraser Messier.

At age 18 she married Adrien P. Martineau, also of Lewiston. Their daughter and love of their life, Constance, was born in 1930. She dedicated the next 53 years to caring for her home and family. Sadly, she was predeceased by both her daughter, in 1935, and her husband, in 1978. For the next 20 years she remained a resident of Brunswick, but the last few years had been a resident of Hawthorne House in Freeport.

Though she had only one child, she became a surrogate aunt and grandparent to many children throughout her long life. Her stories of adventures in her early years in Lewiston and Auburn, her school life in a Canadian Convent School, as well as tales of the wonderful times she had as a summer resident of Blackstone in Brunswick, never ceased to entertain children and people of all ages.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed playing the piano, Bingo, card games, boating, picnics, eating out and having a good time. She took great pride in her immaculate house. As she was an avid reader, she was always up-to-date in the world of current events, local and national politics, health, famous personalities and fashion. Her sense of humor, wisdom and concern for those that she loved will keep her memory alive for decades.

She will be deeply missed by both friends and family.
