I was appalled to read the opinions of two Auburn residents on June 23. They offered nothing but a display of impatience and a laundry list of complaints about the appearance of the city of Lewiston.

Yes, Lewiston is still unattractive. Yes, there is a lot of work to be done. But must people be reminded that this is a 5-year clean-up plan?

Plans take time to be implemented and money needs to accumulate; it does not just appear.

Lewiston is not a wealthy city and, unfortunately, much of our tax dollars are being devoted to the residents on welfare and unemployment rather than on landscaping the L/A gateway or tearing down all the “ugly buildings.” It is not possible to simply incinerate some old buildings, plant some flowers and say, voila, instant beauty!

Here’s the moral: Be patient and accept one small change at a time. And if people cannot realize this will take some time and continue to allow themselves to be offended, they could find an alternative route around Lewiston.
