PERU – Selectmen learned Monday night that the Department of Environmental Protection approved four Small Community grants this week for residents to replace their septic systems.

Seven applications were filed, but two didn’t show visible signs of special needs and one didn’t supply enough information for the representatives from DEP to approve.

Road Commissioner David Gammon reported that except for a few minor adjustments, the work on paving Ridge Road is complete. He has some 14 to 17 driveways to complete, which would take him about another week.

He mentioned that in one bad area they had placed approximately 15 inches of the crushed tar plus adding a fabric. He thinks this will keep the road from heaving in this area, and he said that the road will hold up well.

Selectman Andy St. Pierre complemented Gammon on the job. Gammon also said he is holding up on other projects until all the figures are in on Ridge Road because he knows he is over budget.

The selectmen voted to put the town’s 500 gallon diesel tank up for bids. In the future, they will receive all their fuel from Dixfield Discount.

Selectmen voted to purchase Peachtree upgrade and tax services for the town office computers.

They also voted to ask a representative from Adelphia Cable to come to a meeting to answer some questions.

The tables in front of Worthly Pond store came under discussion after a resident complained that they made the road too narrow because people were parking in front of the store and at the beach.

The consensus was to have the code enforcement officer talk to the owner.

The status of the Murray Campground was discussed and the selectmen said they felt the code enforcement officer and Planning Board need to get involved to address some concerns. They also approved having letters sent to four property owners informing them that their property would be sold at public auction for back taxes this year unless the taxes were paid within 30 days.

Comprehensive Plan coordinator Bill Hines gave copies of a survey he wanted sent to residents.

The selectmen felt it should not be sent until approved by both the Planning Board and the selectmen.

There will be a Comprehensive Plan meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at the Peru School.

Swimming lesson are scheduled for July 14 to Aug. 8 at Worthly Pond.
