BOSTON (AP) – Bishop Sean P. O’Malley will be installed as the ninth archbishop of Boston on July 30, the archdiocese announced Wednesday.

O’Malley, named by Pope John Paul II on Tuesday to be the next leader of the Boston Roman Catholic archdiocese, will succeed Cardinal Bernard Law, who resigned last December amid a simmering priest sexual assault scandal. Bishop Richard G. Lennon has been serving as interim church leader since Law’s departure.

The installation ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

Until that time, the archbishop-elect will reside in Palm Beach, Fla., the archdiocese he had been serving since last fall.
