1915 – 2003

AUBURN – Roland D. Basso, 87, of Auburn, died after a short illness on Thursday, July 3, at Clover Manor Nursing Home.

He was born in Springfield, Vt., on Oct. 14, 1915, the son of Lewis and Emma Basso. He grew up and graduated high school in Springfield. He graduated from Gordon College in Massachusetts.

He was married to Marion Harriet Basso who died on May 24, 2002, in Florida. They were married in September 1941.

He spent much of his adult life in Auburn, though he lived in Florida from 1980 until returning to Maine in February 2003. He worked most of his life as a self-employed carpenter. He was a past member of the South Lewiston Baptist Church.

He is survived by his sons, Curtis Basso and wife Susan of Turner; Lawrence Basso and wife Liz of New Portland; two daughters, Margaret Hoffman and husband, Jeffrey of Kennesaw, Ga., Deborah Perrier of Verona, Virg.; a brother, Richard Basso of Springfield, Vt.; eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren. His sister, Verna Basso, predeceased him.
