LOVELL – Police were alerted to an unresponsive man in a garage Saturday and discovered a dead body and then arrested a Lovell man on a drug charge.

Troopers went to a garage on the Dump Road property of David Davis, 41, responding to a call made from that residence, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.

When troopers arrived they found Timothy Bressette, 43, of Lovell dead on a mattress.

Troopers contacted the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency to join the investigation when they found marijuana and empty prescription bottles in the garage, the report stated.

Early in the afternoon, agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency arrived with a search warrant for the trailer and garage on the property.

In the garage and mobile home, agents said they discovered about 1 pound of packaged marijuana, drug scales and plastic bags that could be used to package marijuana for distribution. They also seized pay records of suspected drug transactions and empty prescription bottles for Methadone or Diazepam, the report continued.

Davis was charged with aggravated trafficking in marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Methadone is a synthetic opiate pain medication commonly prescribed to heroin and other opiate-based drug addicts to alleviate cravings without producing a “high” feeling. Among other uses, Diazepam is used for the short-term management of anxiety disorders, acute alcohol withdrawal and as a muscle relaxant.

Investigators said Bressette, a friend of Davis, arrived at the home Friday afternoon to visit. That evening he went to sleep on a mattress in the garage.

Davis discovered him dead there the next morning, according to police.

The report said it has not been determined whether drugs contributed to Bressette’s death.

Bressette’s body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

Davis was released on bail Sunday after being taken to the Oxford County Jail.
