New officers are elected with Mike Flagg serving as master.
WILTON – Franklin Grange 50 met June 14 at the hall when a brief memorial service was held. A candle was lit at the altar and everyone recited the 23rd Psalm.
Olive Toothaker and Hazel Flagg will be co-chairwomen on a raffle to raise money for the Grange. Louise Flagg was escorted to the altar by the assistants and was met there by her grandson, Mike Flagg, master, who then presented her with her 55-year seal from National Grange and certificate from the Maine State Grange.
The group is working on projects to improve the hall and the surrounding grounds.
Election of officers was held with the following members accepting these positions for 2003-2004: master, Mike Flagg; lecturer, Helen Bubier; chaplain, Tippy Tracy; overseer, Hazel Flagg; steward, Tom Flagg; secretary, Karen Flagg; assistant and lady assistant steward, Dan and Heather Meng; Gatekeeper, Earl Tracy; Flora, Eva Jewell; Ceres, Olive Toothaker; Pomona, Louise Flagg; treasurer, Lincoln Flagg and Thelma Frost, pianist.
The June 28 meeting started out by draping of the charter for the loss of Virginia York who had been a member for 70 years. Lucille Nutt of Farmington filled the chair as overseer. A cake walk was held to benefit Family Health and Hearing. Louise Flagg won the cake and $18 was collected and will be sent to the state Grange.
Special guest was Town Manager Peter Neilson, who spoke of services available in the Wilton area along with the contact persons. The first was Cindy Welch, who helps with literacy issues, plus having testing done on children up to five years of age for hearing and vision. The second was Eric Rutberg, who works with families on parenting skills and making families stronger.
The third was an organization called Protea which has adult counseling services for issues such as depression and alcoholism. He also mentioned Eileen Liddy of East Wilton who works with the Healthy Community Coalition Studies Program. She deals with trying to get people to become more physical along with mental health issues, stop smoking and women’s issues.
There will not be a meeting in July but anyone who would like to attend the annual outing can meet at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at Family Fare Restaurant in Farmington.
