HARRISON – A plethora of events await visitors to this week’s Old Home Days in Harrison. The annual festival begins Wednesday and continues through Saturday with fresh food, a midway and a 50/50 raffle daily.

Wednesday: The Calvary Community Church, located across from the fairground, kicks off the festivities with its annual pancake breakfast and mini craft fair from 7-10 a.m. The Art Moves Dance Group, directed by local dancer Debi Irons, will perform at 7 p.m. At about 9:30 p.m. the Old Home Days annual fireworks display, launched from the middle of Crystal Lake, will conclude the first day of the fair.

Thursday: A baby contest will be held from 6-7 p.m., with judging in three age groups – newborn to 12 months, 13-24 months, and 25-36 months. Entrants’ moms are encouraged to dress their little ones in keeping with the event’s theme: dreams. At 7 p.m. the First Annual Road Race begins. The evening’s entertainment will be LA Baby Boom Box and the annual karaoke contest, from 8-11 p.m.

Friday: The Harrison Lions Club Chicken BBQ, from 4-7 p.m., will begin the evening’s events. The junior parade starts at 6 p.m. Participants aged toddler to 12 years can register for the parade at the Calvary Community Church parking lot from 5:30-6 p.m. All participants will receive a prize, with recognition prizes awarded in four categories: walkers, bikes and trikes, wagons and floats, and doll carriages. Winners of recognition prizes will be included in Saturday’s Grand Parade.

The casino tent will open Friday night at 6 p.m., and will reopen Saturday after the Grand Parade. At 8 p.m., Rick Albert and the O Street Band will perform on the stage.

Saturday: Registration for the Grand Parade will begin Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. on Depot Street. Judging of floats begins at 10:30 a.m., and at noon the parade will proceed down Main Street to the Calvary Community Church. An antique car show at the church will begin after the parade. Another Lions Club barbecue, as well as a lobster bake will be held from 4-7 p.m.

The Seventh Annual Duck Race will be held at the Mill Pond Dam at 5 p.m. Ducks can be purchased at the Market Basket and the Village Tie Up. The owner of the winning duck goes home with half the proceeds of the race. Saturday’s entertainment will be Second Hand Smoke with the Sahara Desert Dancers, beginning at 8 p.m.

Advance tickets for the midway can be purchased at a discount at the Village Tie Up and the Market Basket, until they run out. Wednesday through Friday, the food booth will open at 5:30 p.m., and the midway and raffle booth will open at 6 p.m. Raffle drawings will take place hourly until the 50/50 drawing at 10:30 p.m. On Saturday, the midway and raffle booth will open at 12:45 p.m.
