RUMFORD – The SAD 43 board accepted several resignations, made a number of appointments and held two closed sessions at its Monday meeting.

It also agreed to established two new positions that will be funded by grants.

Resigning from her position as Mountain Valley High School secretary was veteran district employee Denise Glazier. The board will add a search for her replacement along with those for a new high school principal and assistant principal.

Other resignations accepted were from Andrea Bannister, a MVHS math teacher and Wendi Richards, a guidance counselor at the high school.

Appointed to other positions were Melissa Aylward as an educational technician at Meroby Elementary School, Jeannine Towle as an education technician at Mountain Valley Middle School, Zachary Thompson as a science and social studies teacher at MVMS, and former school board member Lisa Russell as an education technician at the high school.

The board also authorized establishing a one-year, part-time position as family literacy director. Funding for the new position comes from a Maine Family Literacy Initiative of which SAD 43 was one of nine granted in the state. The new position will coordinate reading and writing efforts that affect the family and young children. A full-time math specialist position was also approved. Funding for the full-time position comes from Title 1 federal monies.

The board met in a 20-minute closed session to discuss a personnel matter, and in a five-minute session to clarify an issue in the bus driver/custodian negotiations. No action was taken from either session.
