1917 – 2003
FARMINGTON – Arnold G. Smith, 86, a longtime resident of East Jay Road in Jay, died Tuesday, July 8, at Sandy River Nursing Home where he had been a patient for five days.
He was born on April 28, 1917, in Jay, the son of Parke F. and Myra M. Foley Smith. He was a graduate of Jay High School, class of 1937.
On Nov. 11, 1938 he married Alice Stevens in Canton. He was a self-employed farmer who took pride in showing his oxen at the local fairs, especially at the Fryeburg Fair.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years of Jay; a daughter, Judy Smith of Hampden; two sons, Norris Smith of Jay and Thomas Smith and his wife Joanne of Dublin, Calif.; two sisters, Beryl Emerson and her husband George, Jr. of Auburn and Alberta Galusha and her husband Paul of Jay; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Donovan Smith; and two sisters, Muriel Farrington and Genevieve Wellman.
