LIVERMORE FALLS – A Livermore Falls man faces several charges after he allegedly assaulted police while trying to escape arrest.
Jacob Delano, 23, was charged with two felony charges of assault on a police officer and felony charge of attempting to escape, Livermore Falls police officer Maurice Drouin said. He also was charged with the misdemeanors of failure to submit to arrest and disorderly conduct. He was initially charged with violation of bail conditions, Drouin said.
The incident started just as the fireworks were ending Thursday night, the officer said.
Complaints came in that people near the power lines on a roof next to R-N-K’s pizza and sandwich shop were being obnoxious, Drouin said. When Drouin and officer Bruce Benson arrived, there was no one on the roof. Drouin said he heard someone running down to the railroad tracks. The person fit the description witnesses gave, he said.
When officers caught up with the man, he said, it was discovered that he was out on bail from an incident in Somerset County and was allegedly violating release conditions.
Officers were in the process of arresting Delano for violation of bail conditions when he slipped out of a handcuff and ran up a hill, Drouin said.
Police sprayed him with Mace him, he said, but that failed to subdue him. Officers grabbed him and in the process, Delano was allegedly kicking at them and struck them, Drouin said. Officers finally were able to arrest and handcuff him, the officer said, and transported him to Androscoggin County Jail.
