1914 – 2003

LEWISTON – Winona T. Bisbee, 89, of Stetson Road, Auburn, passed away Tuesday, July 8, at Central Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Farmington on April 23, 1914, the daughter of Arthur and Mary (Ingersol) Tirrell. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Canton for several years. She was also an active member of the Universalist Church in Canton, where she performed duties as the Choir Director and Sunday School Superintendent.

She was an accomplished violinist and pianist. She displayed her musical talents at many Contra Dances for the summer campers in Canton, church and Eastern Star playing a “Richardson” violin constructed by her great-grandfather.

She continued to entertain at Schooner Estates for the residents well into her 80’s. She served on the entertainment committee for several years at Schooner Estates where she lived for 14 years.

She assisted her husband with clerical duties associated with the Canton Water District and the Town of Canton where he served as the Tax Collector for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Downey and husband Joseph of Auburn; nephews, Hartley Tirrell Jr. of Livermore, Lawrence Tirrell of Saco and Robert Hartley of Falmouth.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dwight Bisbee; parents; and brother, Hartley Tirrell.
