Modern-day politics are sad in this country. In its heyday, the two-party system was thought to be the preserver of democracy. It has turned into the destruction of our freedoms, guaranteed by that democracy we hold so dear.

The so-called “New Republican Party” has evolved into an extreme right wing group, bordering on fascism. The Democratic Party has turned into a hopeless group of willy-nillys, unable or unwilling to stand up for its rights.

I have been following national politics since the 1952 Republican and Democratic conventions, which were the very first to be televised. Back then, we had true statesmen in Ike and Adlai. They were leaders who set an example for all to follow. Arrogance and pettiness were not a part of a politicians makeup.

Some how in the following years, more specifically, after John F. Kennedy was assassinated, everything headed downhill. We, the voters, are also partly to blame. Voter apathy has become a way of life. Most of those who do support their party and candidates are easily led by the nose, amidst lies and perversions. Those who know the truth are disillusioned and tend to stay away from the polls..

Maybe we are getting what we need in our government today. Perhaps, when the people do wake up to the dictatorship we are headed for, we just may have another revolution.
