A story about contract negotiations between Auburn and union members of its Police Department contained two factual errors, according to police Detective Chad Syphers, who provided the information. Syphers, the local’s president, said the union’s contract with the city actually expired at midnight on June 30, not on July 1. He also said he misspoke when detailing step increases awarded to police officers under the expired contract. The steps ran through the first 11 years of employment, he said.

The story appeared on page B1 of Thursday’s city edition.
