WILTON – Selectmen will discuss the breakdown and repair of a second Rotating Biological Contact wheel at the sewer treatment plant when they meet Tuesday. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the town office.

Last month Selectmen authorized Water and Sewer department Superintendent Russ Mathers to repair one RBC wheel at a cost of up to $83,835, with labor being done by his department workers. Mathers said there must be three functioning wheels at all times and they have no backup.

Costs for the repair will come from a reserve account the sewer department has built up over the past 10 years. There is currently $237,000 in that fund. Mathers said the department will work toward rebuilding that account. While the repair will not cost the town as far as outside labor, officials must authorize such major expenditures.

In other business, officials will award bids for a snow plow truck, asphalt mulch pavement and the 2003 road paving program. Those bids were opened at their last meeting. Selectmen asked that Town Manager Peter Nielsen and Road Foreman Ken Vining look over the bids to be sure they meet specifications before making a decision on them. Officials will also open bids on for a new police cruiser.

The board will meet with Bicentennial celebration Coordinator Shannon Smith to discuss any final concerns and plans before the event, which takes place the first weekend in August.

They will meet with citizens and the cemetery mowing contractor to discuss cemetery rules about the placement and removal of flowers at Lakeview Cemetery. Officials will also discuss a harvest management plan for a wood lot on Guy Chandler Road. The lot is owned by the town.
