BERLIN, N.H. – There will be many activities to keep children busy and entertained during the Festival du Bois from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, at Northern Forest Heritage Park’s Logging Camp Museum.

The first Festival du Bois “Dum Dum Silly Willy Puppet Show” will offer comedy and music. Dick Coffin, a well-established impressionist, keeps his show hopping as he features some of the funniest voices for each character throughout their comical antics.

Haven Neal of Project Learning Tree will create hands-on activities for all who are interested and fascinated by the life of a tree. There will be artistic wood and paper related activities. With the help of a magnifying glass, Haven will show how to gauge what the weather was like during the life of a particular tree.

There will be baby goats, Flip and Flop. These animals have chosen Northern Forest Heritage Park to be their summer home.

Crafters will help youngsters create zany, imaginative treasures from brown paper bags, felt, twine, birch bark, twigs, bubbles, paints and paper. Throughout the day hula hoops, marbles, puzzles, face-painting, and a sand pile will help keep the young folk entertained.

There also will be story telling about “The Giving Tree.” All children’s activities, including the puppet show are included in the price of admission to the Festival du Bois.

Admission is $12 for adults and $6 for children 6 to 12. Bring proof of your Coos County residency to receive a $2 discount for an adult ticket and $1 discount for ages 6 to 12. All children under 6 are free.

The Northern Forest Heritage Park is on the Androscoggin River, three quarters of a mile from downtown Berlin at 961 Main Street (Route 16). The park is a nonprofit organization with a commitment to tell the stories of the working forest and to celebrate the region’s diverse cultural heritage. At its eight-acre site, which includes a logging camp replica and an amphitheater, the park hosts a series of events, workshops and annual festivals, such as the Festival du Bois, held this year on July 26 and the return of lumberjack competitions on June 29 and Sept. 21. The Artisans Gift Shop is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information and a free calendar, call (603) 752-7202, or visit www.northernforestheritage.org.
