NORWAY – Stephens Memorial Hospital Auxiliary recently celebrated and recognized the dedication and commitment of its volunteers. At this annual awards luncheon in the Harper Conference Center, representatives from the auxiliary board and Western Maine Health administrators thanked members and volunteers for 7,505 hours of recorded volunteer time for the year 2002. Special certificates of recognition were presented to those volunteers who met the requirements of the American Hospital Association.
25 hours of service: Laurie Cox, Lorraine Dresser, Priscilla Crosby, Nancy Engdahl, Muriel Dignan, Joan Putnam and Shawn Herrick.
100 hours: Karen Fillebrown, Bette Iwans, Priscilla Pulsifer, Becky Stevens.
500 hours: Susan Ward.
1,000 hours: Helen Jackson, Elaine Emery, Freda Truman.
2,000 hours: Pat Dyer, Midge Leighton, Connie Shorey.
3,000 hours: Harriet Thompson.
New SMH Auxiliary workers during 2002 were: Shawn Herrick, Deborah Byron, Nancy Engdahl, Mary Jane Ochkie, Carol Trebilcock, Zaki Simone, Joan Putnam, Dick Smith and Nancy Willard.
During this annual gathering of more than 75 people, the auxiliary also presented a check for $50,000, the second installment of its $250,000 pledge, for the Campaign for Exceptional Care, to John Cox, Western Maine Health Senior VP Fiscal. The auxiliary made a record pledge to the construction project currently under way at Stephens Memorial Hospital, and has chosen to underwrite the new central registration waiting area in honor of the auxiliary and its members. The project will enhance the hospital’s ability to provide outstanding emergency care and will improve the delivery of all other outpatient services.
