AUBURN – The National Honor Society at Edward Little High School held its 40th annual induction ceremony in the gym.
Principal James Miller welcomed 350 people and congratulated the inductees. National Honor Society President Bobby Guerette explained this year’s achievements and the recipients of the club’s financial donations. He introduced the speaker, Robert Chick, founder of the Auburn NHS Chapter 40 years ago.
Musical accompaniment was handled by NHS member Colin Britt (All-East in music). A vocal musical selection was offered by NHS members who were All-State in music this year: Joel Biron, Adam Gould, Lucas Rau, Kacie Herrick and Britt.
NHS students conducted most of the program. Tony Davis gave a history of the society. The four characteristics of a member were explained by Adam Ouellette (scholarship), Chris Pelliccia (leadership), Jennifer Chantrill (character), and Austin Nadeau (service). Each person then lit a candle from the candelabra to signify that attribute. Katelyn Chabot, vice president, lit the fifth candle to symbolize a person who has all four characteristics.
The inductees were invited to light a candle to signify the characteristic of their choice. Their credentials of memberships were given by Chabot, Jennifer Chantrill, secretary, and Sarah Crispin, treasurer. All inductees, led by Guerette, recited the NHS oath. They exited to the recessional of “Odes of Joy.”
The newly inducted members greeted their families and other guests at the back of the gym. Light refreshments were served by Kit Sawyer and Carolyn Ritchie. Posters depicting this year’s events, prepared by Sarah Crispin and Anna Eisenstein, were on display. Also scrapbooks of the 40-year history of the society were available for view. Ushers included Andrea Gove, Christine LeBlanc and Amy LaPrell. Faculty member Larry Gordon and the Graphic Arts Department printed the programs.
