Dale Jarrett’s No.88 Ford team was to test this week for the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but came home Monday after another bad day in Sunday’s Tropicana 400 at Chicagoland Speedway.
“We decided, in light of how the 88 team ran that we’re going to send those guys home and regroup,” Doug Yates, general manager of the Robert Yates Racing team said at Indianapolis.
“The car the 88 ran in Chicago was a brand new car. It was untested, but we had high hopes that it would do well. Unfortunately, it was probably our worst day of the year..”
Jarrett finished 30th Sunday.
Kerry Earnhardt out
of NHIS race
FitzBradshaw Racing announced Tim Fedewa will drive the No.12 Chevrolet in Saturday’s Busch Series race at New Hampshire in place of Kerry Earnhardt.
“Kerry has proven he is a strong driver,” said Armando Fitz, the team’s co-owner. “But the team is simply not gelling.”
Johnson move
draws criticism
Jimmie Johnson passed Michael Waltrip for third place with 33 laps left Sunday as the cars raced back to a yellow flag, and Waltrip wasn’t thrilled.
“Taking a position under the yellow flag is like stealing, yet stealing is against the law,” Waltrip said. “There is not a law against racing back to the yellow, so until NASCAR decides what they want to do, then it’s a free for all.”
NASCAR President Mike Helton has told drivers to abide the gentleman’s agreement and not race back or NASCAR would make a rule governing racing back to the yellow flag.
Notes
John Andretti, let go last month from Petty Enterprises’ No.43 Dodge, was second fastest is testing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in a fourth Dale Earnhardt Inc.-owned car. His 178.568 mph was behind only Todd Bodine’s 178.879.
Roush Racing said it will continue to field unsponsored teams for Jon Wood and Carl Edwards in the NASCAR Truck Series for the rest of the season.
Edwards won Saturday at Kentucky Speedway and Wood won the week before at Kansas.
