RUMFORD – A Biddeford man was arrested Saturday evening after being caught squealing his car tires while riding around the rotary, police said.

Following a subsequent investigation at 8:25 p.m. by officer Paul Casey, Thomas H. Elliott, 46, was charged with operating under the influence (second offense), operating beyond license restrictions and aggravated criminal mischief.

After Elliott failed to post bail of either $500 cash or $1,000 surety, he was transported to Oxford County Jail in Paris. However, during transport, at Rumford Center, Elliott was tagged with the aggravated criminal mischief charge when he kicked out the police cruiser’s rear window, causing $2,300 damage, said Sgt. George Cayer.

Elliott was slated to be arraigned Monday afternoon in South Paris District Court.

Stolen bike

In other police news, at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, a Gilbert Avenue resident reported that a green girls’ 10-speed Huffy mountain bike was stolen from an unlocked garage, Cayer said.

The burglary occurred sometime between 4:15 and 4:45 p.m. The victim later spotted the stolen bike on Route 120, but by the time it was reported and police went to the scene, the $75 bicycle was gone, Cayer added. Officer Paul Casey is investigating the incident.

Moose collision

At 3:49 a.m. Thursday, a 1993 Jeep Cherokee driven by Gary Billings, 46, of Milton Township, collided with a young bull moose on the South Rumford Road, breaking one of its legs, said Sgt. Stacy Carter. The moose was dispatched by responding officer Michael Halacy.
