1909 – 2003
LEWISTON – Leda M. Collins, 93, of 33 Roger St. died Tuesday, July 15, at Marshwood Center for Health Care and Rehabilitation following a long illness.
She was born in St. Agatha, on Sept. 20, 1909, the daughter of Haliare and Amanda (Chasse) Chasse. She was employed as a school teacher in her early years in northern Maine, then moved to Lewiston in 1943 and was employed at Mongomery Ward for over 20 years.
She then worked at Zayre’s Corp. until her retirement in 1975. She was a member of Holy Family Church since 1950. Mrs. Collins enjoyed knitting, sewing and ceramics. She was the widow of Albert Collins whom she married on Nov. 21, 1929 and who died on July 29, 1954.
She is survived by one son, Edward Collins and his wife Pauline of Sabattus; one daughter, Doris Howard of South Carolina; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one son, Normand Collins; and one daughter, Rita Lacoste.
