1918 – 2003

LEWISTON – Robert P. Allen, 85, of North Turner, retired Boston Globe editor, who had been on that paper’s editorial staff for 45 years, died June 28, in Lewiston after a brief illness.

Born in Somerville, Mass., May 23, 1918, he was educated in Medford, Mass., public schools, Mount Hermon School and Ohio Wesleyan University. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army in Australia, New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan for three years.

He is survived by two sons, David of LaGrange, Ky., and his wife Annita, and Peter of North Turner and his wife Marie; and four grandchildren.
