A barking dog issue will be the subject of discussion.

NORWAY – Children ages 5 to 17 attending Kids Kamp at the Guy E. Rowe School this week will travel to Waterford on Friday, July 18, to experience the past by visiting three Waterford Historical Society museums.

At 10:30 a.m. campers will visit the Old Town House and participate in a mock town meeting moderated by state Rep. Sawin Millett, who lives in Waterford and has moderated town meetings for many years.

Camp Director Cynthia Hamlin is a selectman in Waterford and program chairman for the Waterford Historical Society.

Campers will debate the barking dog issue in the manner of a historical town meeting.

Waterford resident William Wheeler, who is also active in the Waterford Historical Society, has been working with campers during the week and honing their debate skills on the chosen issue.

After the town meeting, campers will visit the Mary Gage Rice Museum. The visit will include a contest to name artifacts in the museum that are of particular interest to school-age children. The group will then proceed to North Waterford to visit the Historical Society museum there.

This trip is the culmination of a week of getting acquainted with historical games. During the week campers have engaged in craft activities creating vintage games (and playing them) and had the opportunity to view a display of vintage toys and games.

The day camp operates for eight weeks during the summer and is sponsored by Gateway to the Shire.
