BATH – Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance, statewide literary organization, has announced its move on July 1 to newly renovated offices at the Washington Street campus of the Midcoast Center for Higher Education, University College Bath/Brunswick, in Bath.

The facility, formerly a medical center, is owned by the city of Bath, which welcomed the alliance as the ideal complement to tenants: University College at Bath/Brunswick, Southern Maine Community College and the Center for Women, Work and Community.

The alliance has been based in the mid-coast area for 20 of its 28 years, the last three at Fort Andross, Brunswick. Serving the state from its headquarters, the alliance offers 60 or more workshops, writers’ jam sessions, a fall writers’ retreat at Haystack, Deer Isle, and panel discussions and presentations.

It also publishes the bimonthly Maine In Print, Maine’s only literary newspaper, and the annual catalog of Maine Books, made available on the organization’s Web site.

The new location will expand the offices, satisfying the organization’s goal to be more accessible to members and program participants. The organization’s outreach efforts will expand as well.

The alliance invites members and the public to stop by 1326 Washington St. to see the new headquarters and explore the research library. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. More information about the alliance and its programs can be found at www.mainewriters.org or call 386-1400.
