BETHEL – Travis Brooks tripled home the eventual game-winning run as Locke Mills edged Cole Farms 5-4 in legion baseball action Thursday.
The pitching was evenly matched as Kane Olson retired nine batters for Locke Mills, while Louie Bernadini did the same for Cole Farms. The difference came down to timely hitting for Locke Mills.
Cole Farms nailed down eight hits, including a double apiece from Shane Corcoran and Johnny Aceto.
Locke Mills scored three runs in the third to retake a 4-3 lead they lost after scoring a single run in the first. Karl Olson and Brooks ripped a triple apiece to contribute to Locke Mills six-hit day for the win.
Monmouth 11, Waterville 1
WALES – Ben Muniz smashed a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, to notch seven RBIs as Monmouth crushed Waterville 11-1 in legion baseball action Thursday.
Muniz started things off in the first inning for Monmouth with a run-scoring single. Pat Duchette and Seth Emery had perfect plate performances for Monmouth with a combined 7-for-7, while tallying three RBIs in the 15-hit pummeling.
The six-run fourth inning for Monmouth knocked Chris McGinnis from the mound, giving way to Eric Lopez before Ryan Lockard relieved the final inning. Waterville had closed the lead to within two runs at 3-1 in the top of the fourth before Monmouth went on an offensive spree in the home half of the frame.
Rick Leavitt allowed only one run on three hits, while sitting down 10 batters for the win.
