1917 – 2003
NORWAY – Sherwood Knightly, 86, of Norway died Thursday, July 17, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Lewiston on June 30, 1917, the son of Walter and Annie Leavitt Knightly. He attended school in South Paris and had been a vegetable produce farmer since 1947.
He also drove oil truck for George Andrews Oil for many years. He was a member of the Norway Baptist Church, the Norway Grange and the Norway I.O.O.F.
He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married the former Elizabeth Holman, she predeceased him.
He is survived by a son, Sherman and his wife Mary of Winterport; a daughter, Jane Chapman and her husband Gordon of West Gardiner; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Elva Wilson; a cousin, Dale Polland and his wife Evangeline; nieces and nephews; special friends, Robert and Brenda Richardson, Rodney and Caroline Stevens and Eugene and Alicia Stevens.
