AUBURN – Reed Paper annexed the playoff championship to its regular season pennant in the Auburn Suburban Little League Senior Division with a 9-2 victory over Dead River in the title contest.

David Lutz was the winning hurler, allowing just 1 run on 2 hits in 3 innings of work. He struck out 4. Lutz shared the mound duties with Jacob Marcum, and Brandon Elie. Kevin Pontbriand sparked the offense with 2 hits. Lutz, B.J. Levasseur, Nick LeBlanc and Brian Dubois also cracked hits. Brian Erickson, Josh Loudermilk, Chad Merchant and Dave Chesley were the hitters for Dead River.

Reed finished with a 16-3 record.

Elliot

LEWISTON -Roux Insurance came from the No. 4 slot to capture top honors in the Elliot Senior Division playoffs. Roux outslugged Rainbow Bicycle 21-13 in the title tilt. Evan Kordalski was the winning pitcher, with Joe Bonneau getting a save. Cam Laney drilled 3 hits. Adding 2 each were Dave Roux, Christian Ouellette and Nick Blais. Greg Martineau collected 4 hits for the Cyclists. Travis Dyke, Matt Cournoyer and Matt Shaw all rapped 3.

In semifinal playoff action, Rainbow edged Gee & Bee Sports 11-8. Kyle Dussault led with 3 hits and 2 walks. Cournoyer, Ethan Gagnon and Martineau added 2 hits each. Shaw contributed a 2-run triple. Cournoyer got the save, striking out 3 batters in the seventh. Erik Waite led Gee & Bee with 2 hits. . . In the other semifinal tilt, Roux Insurance overcame a 7-5 deficit to beat No. 1 Emerson Chevy 11-7. Blais hurled a complete game. Laney socked 2 hits and drove in 4 runs. Ben Sullivan also belted 2 hits, including a game-tying double. Joe Sweeney got the game-winning hit. Ryan Dube led Emerson with 3 hits and 4 RBI. Danny Lajoie and Dan Cloutier added 2 hits each.

Minor Division

Roux Insurance earned the Elliot Minor Division championship with a 3-1 win over Wendy’s. Nathan Berube hurled 3 innings of no-hit ball. Carrington Stephenson pitched the final 2 frames for the save. Brady Blouin whacked a 2-run double in the first inning. Wendy’s Brandon Larken socked an RBI triple in the fifth to make the game close.

Other recent results in the Minor Division: Wendy’s picked up 2 wins, the first 10-8 over Caron Construction. Winning pitcher Shawn Handler ripped a 3-run homer over the fence. Luke Olehowski legged out a 2-run inside-the-park homer. Matt Poto went 3-3. Colt Steele, Josh Bussiere and Ivan Rodriguez were repeat hitters for Caron’s. . . . Wendy’s also blanked D.A. Poussard 6-0 as Jacob Lajoie and Handler combined for the shutout. Spencer Simoneau went 2-2 and scored the winning run. Nicholas Hatfield made a great catch in the outfield for Poussard.

Roux Insurance beat Wal-Mart 13-9 as Ryan Pare and Brady Blouin each rapped 2 hits. Nathan Berube gained the mound win. John Caton and Brandon Moore both collected 3 hits for Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart trimmed Lighting Concepts 6-1 as Shawn Ricker and Brian Wigant combined for 13 strikeouts. Ricker belted 3 hits. Devin Long and Jacob Lapierre both doubled for Concepts.

District 5 tourneys

AUBURN – Auburn Suburban and Elliot of Lewiston will meet at 5:30 Monday at Winslow for the District Five 9-10 Softball Division championship. Auburn forced a second and deciding game Friday with a 17-13 win over previously unbeaten Elliot. Kristen Whittaker hurled a complete game, fanning 11. Crissy Leiws collected 3 hits and anchored third base with strong defense. Frankie Lally, Meghan Poirier, Victoria Bunker and Whittaker all contributed to the offense. Michelle Caron clouted 2 homers for Elliot.

Auburn Suburban won the District 5 Junior Baseball Division title during the weekend by sweeping 2 games from Elliot, 25-1 and 5-1. The District 5 champs will now compete in the State Junior Tournament, July 25-27 at Mt. Desert Island High School. Suburban opens Friday, July 25 at 11:30 a.m. against the District 6 champ.
