AUBURN – Plans are under way for the fourth annual Celebrating the Women of L/A.
It will be 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, on the lawn at Central Maine Community College. This year’s theme will be “Women, Tea, and Conversation.” Desserts and tea provided, along with an opportunity to win door prizes. Musical entertainment and an inspirational speaker will also be on tap.
Celebrating the Women of L/A, sponsored by area businesses, honors women within the Lewiston-Auburn community, both past and present.
This year, the Twin Cities are holding the event in partnership with Club W, a free membership program affiliated with St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
Once again, the event will include an Honor Board paying tribute to Lewiston-Auburn women. To contribute to the Honor Board, members of the community are being encouraged to submit a 150-word essay and photo about a woman they believe should be celebrated: a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, friend or associate.
The essay should describe how the honoree has affected the life of the writer or the lives of others. The names of all those celebrated through the Honor Board will be entered into the Congressional Record by U.S. Sen. Susan M. Collins.
The deadline for submitting essays and photos for the board is Aug. 1.
Participation in the Honor Board doesn’t guarantee a seat at the event for the person submitting a letter or the person being celebrated, organizers said. First-come, first-serve attendance information will announced soon.
Honor submissions should be forwarded to Laurie Smith, Community Relations Manager, City Manager’s Office, 45 Spring Street, Auburn, ME 04210.
