RUMFORD – The third week of Summer Fest begins Monday, July 21, when “A Journey Through the Wizard’s World” with Almodarr and Angelique will be featured. Almodarr, one of New England’s top magical entertainers, and his talented partner, Angelique, are adept storytellers and present an incomparable show of magic, comedy and illusion.

They were recently in Bluefield, W.V., for a performance in conjunction with the release of the newest Harry Potter book.

Bring in a picture of one of your summer activities on Tuesday, July 22, because you will have an opportunity to make a “Save Your Summer Memories” frame with Lynn Frost and Marie Tanguay. These Rumford Elementary School teachers will show ways to decorate a frame to display your picture. Parents are encouraged to attend with younger children in order to assist them with the project.

On Wednesday, July 23, Ron Theriault will be quest speaker, presenting “Hiking, camping and water safety.” Ron is Public Affairs Officer for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in Portsmouth, N.H., and has been an avid hiker and camper for many years. He will talk with attendees about how to be safe around the water. Ron will also show children some of the gear that is essential for a safe trip into the outdoors and share with them things he has experienced while on the trail.

Thursday, July 24, is the 27th annual Fun Day! This is the day when many individuals work together to create a fun-filled time for the youngsters. There will be various games to take part in and face-painting, as well as cotton candy and popcorn for munching.

Kim and Addy Fuller will read “Fairy Houses” by Maine author Tracy Kane at Friday’s noontime “Picnic in the Park.” Children will have an opportunity to construct their own fairy houses after hearing the story. Kim, an elementary school teacher, and her daughter Addy share a love of books and reading.

With the exception of the Friday noontime “Picnic in the Park,” all other Summer Fest programs are at 3 p.m. and last approximately one hour. All programs are free of charge. Parents are welcome at all the programs and are encouraged to attend with younger children.

There is still time to participate in the final week of the summer reading program, Take Flight with Reading!, which ends July 26. Children interested in the summer reading program can get further information about the program and the reading incentives by picking up a weekly reading log in the children’s room.
