SOUTH PORTLAND (AP) – Two teenagers accused of firing a BB gun at several people on Preble Street Saturday night were released on bail from the Cumberland County Jail.

South Portland police charged Jeremy Shaw and Timothy Garrett, both 18, with reckless conduct, burglary to a motor vehicle, theft by receiving, criminal mischief and possession of burglars’ tools, Sgt. Frank Clark said.

Clark said police were call around 11 p.m. after several residents of Preble Street reported that a car with two men inside had driven by, pointed what looked like a handgun at them and fired.

The weapon turned out to be a BB gun. The BBs broke a nearby window. There were no injuries.

A resident of Winding Way also reported that his car had been broken into and several items stolen. Witnesses of both incidents told police that the men were driving a dark-colored sedan.

Clark said police stopped a vehicle a short time later and recovered a “realistic looking” BB gun and other evidence.
