1922 – 2003

LEWISTON – Arnold B. Libby Sr., 81, passed away July 22, at CMMC, following a short illness.

Born in Auburn, March 25, 1922, to Howard and Christine (Bradbury) Libby, he was raised and went to school in Auburn. He raised his family in Monmouth.

He served in the Army during World War II in Europe, participating in D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge.

He worked in local shoe shops as a young man, later working for Bancroft and Martin Cement Products, traveling throughout Maine for many years. He then did long distance trucking until his retirement. He still worked part-time in his early retirement years, driving for the U.S. Post Office. His jobs suited his love of travel and keen interest in everything.

One hobby he enjoyed was flying. He would reminisce about his weekend fly-ins to his camp on Moosehead Lake in his younger years.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Libby of Lewiston; his children, Pamela (Randy) Smith of La Crosse, Wisc., Sue (Walter) Cook of Burns, Tenn., and Beverly (Joe) Adams of Readfield; stepchildren, Joanne (Dutch) Ducharme, Mike Charest of Dallas, Texas, Barney (Louise) Charest of Buckfield, Monique (Jim) Leamon of Casco, Lenny Charest of Miami, Fla., Diane (Jerry) DuBois of Livermore, Danny (Sue) Charest of Dover, N.H., and Ronny (Laurie) Charest of Lewiston; siblings, Harriet (Billy) Kilbride of Topsham, Horace (Roberta) Libby of Winslow, Geraldine Danforth of Spruce Head Island, Warren Libby of Minot and Robert (Alice) Libby of Greene; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Penny Prestridge in 1999; his son, Arnold Libby Jr. in 2002; and his brother, Garry in 1975.
