Rodney Smith should be back home by the weekend.

OXFORD – Oxford Code Enforcement Officer Rodney Smith was recovering Tuesday at Maine Medical Center in Portland after suffering a heart attack Sunday evening.

Smith, who has served as the town’s code enforcement officer for a dozen years or more, initially went to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, where he suffered a second heart attack, said Selectman David Ivey. He was then transferred to the Portland hospital.

“He had a stent put in, and he’s recovering fine,” Ivey said Tuesday.

Town Manager Mike Huston said Smith, 55, is expected to return home by this weekend, and will be recuperating before returning to work.

“He told me he’d be back to work by the first of August but I said, ‘No, I don’t think so.’ You’re going to take a little time off,” Huston said.

Besides serving as code enforcement officer, Smith was acting town manager for several months after former Town Manager Howie Munday resigned.
