1920 – 2003

SALEM, Mass. – Ethel (Holly) Nadeau, 82, wife of Clarence “Glen” Nadeau of Peabody, and predeceased by her first husband, Albert St.Pierre, died in Salem Hospital Tuesday morning, July 22, following a long illness.

Born Dec. 3, 1920, and educated in Farmington, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Ruth (Cooks) Holly. Mrs. Nadeau was educated in Auburn, elementary schools and the Edward Little High School. For many years she was employed in heel manufacturing plants for the shoe industry for companies including the Lown Shoe Industry and Rangeley Heel Co.

In 1955 she and her husband began their courtship and in 1961 married at St. Patrick’s Church in Lewiston. For three years they commuted from Maine to tanneries in Danvers, Mass., until settling on the North Shore in 1964.

Mrs. Nadeau then continued working in the tanneries until 1981. She then was employed by Lerner’s at the North Shore Shopping Center until retiring in 2001 and joining her husband with his home cleansing business. A devoted and loving wife, she and her husband were always together, sharing 48 years and enjoyed summering at their camp in Auburn.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Nadeau is survived by a brother, Richard and his wife Barbara O’Leary of Norfolk, Va., and Ogunquit; a sister, Mary and her husband Tony Ursano of Haverhill; several nieces and nephews including Joanne Papavacil Cohen of Haverhill, Paula Papavacil Langlois of Derry, NH, Sandra Papavacil Danielson and Demetra Papavacil Cohen both of Newburyport and Barbara Rowell of Haverhill; many grandnieces and nephews; and a special friend, North Shore Medical Center Chaplin, Anna Smulowitz Schutz.

In addition to her first husband, she was predeceased by her stepfather, Daniel O’Leary; and a sister, Arlene Holly Papavacil.
