The group is planning to introduce more new programs locally.

RUMFORD – The Region 9 Wellness Team recently spent five days at the Maine School Site Health Promotion Conference XVIII at Sugarloaf USA. The theme of this year’s conference was “Wicked Good Wellness for Me.”

More than 300 school teachers and employees participated in this year’s conference, to learn more about health education and promotion through exercise, nutrition and overall well-being.

The Region 9 team participated in many programs, including personal safety for students and school staff, nutrition for optimal performance, exercise and asthma, helping Maine students and athletes stay active, bringing wellness and balance to the workplace, personal fitness and looking at expanding portion sizes and the obesity epidemic.

Keynote speakers from around the country were brought in to round off the program.

The Wellness Team at Region 9 is looking forward to adding to the wellness program already in effect at the school. Walking programs, healthy alternative snacks and lunches, motivational speakers and the educational and popular Wellness Bulletin Board are just a few of the plans for the upcoming school year.
