OXFORD – Mike Thompson has decided not to resign from the Board of Selectmen after all.

Thompson walked out of the July 17 selectmen’s meeting saying he was resigning. His action came after a verbal exchange with Gary Tibbetts, one of the town’s more outspoken critics of board policy and spending decisions.

By the time Thompson had spent a weekend in New Hampshire at NASCAR races, he had reconsidered his decision to resign.

“He’s not going to resign. He’s coming back to us,” Selectmen Chairman David Ivey said Tuesday. Ivey said he encouraged Thompson to stay on, “and I’m sure he talked to some other people, too. I’m glad he came back.”

Thompson has served on the board for the past year and a half.

Town Manager Mike Huston was pleased to hear that Thompson had reconsidered his resignation.

“It will be good to get everybody back on board,” he said.

The board’s next meeting will be 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 7.
