AUGUSTA (AP) – A Maine woman was killed and a man seriously injured in an accident near Whitefield Monday.

Maine State Police say Margaret Walker, 56, of Thomaston died at the scene.

Police said they don’t know why her car crossed the center line on Route 17 and into the path of a box truck around 7:30 a.m.

The truck driver, Erlon Creamer, 46, of Whitefield, took evasive action but the car struck the side of his truck, police said. The carpenter was taken to a Lewiston hospital for treatment and released.

The accident is under investigation.
