BOWIE, Md. (AP) – Kevin Youkilis and Trace Coquillette each homered to lead the Portland Sea Dogs to a 3-1 victory over the Bowie Baysox on Thursday night.
After Carlos Leon singled for Portland to start the game, Youkilis delivered a two-run homer off of Baysox starter Fernando Rijo in the top of the first, giving Portland (54-45) a 2-0 lead.
Coquillette’s homer, a solo shot in the sixth, also came against Rijo (3-9), who allowed seven hits and three runs in six innings of work and suffered the loss.
The Baysox (49-54) were only able to manage a fifth inning run on a wild pitch by Portland starter Junior Herndon.
Herndon (6-4) earned the win, going five innings, allowing four hits and the one run.
Charlie Weatherby pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, with Scott Aldred working the final 1.2 innings to get his first save on the year.
