RUMFORD – Longtime local master guide Sandy MacGregor has recently been certified as an Orvis endorsed fly fishing guide.

Orvis certification, an internationally recognized standard, is the highest guarantee of quality that a guide can offer his clients.

To achieve this recognition a guide must demonstrate an expertise in the use of fly-fishing equipment as well as the experience and ability to teach the beginner and to offer the experienced fisherman a challenge. The Orvis endorsed guide must be well acquainted with the waters he fishes and is responsible for safety on water and land.

Clients are provided lunch and guides must demonstrate experience in organizing and hosting a streamside lunch.

Sandy has the exclusive Orvis endorsement for western Maine and the Androscoggin watershed.

He is one of only four Orvis endorsed guides in Maine. He has been a master guide in Maine since 1985 and is now also a New Hampshire licensed fishing guide.
