1918 – 2003

LEWISTON – Fred W. Handy, 85, a resident of West Main Street, Greene, died Saturday morning at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion.

He was born in Winsted, Conn. July 6, 1918, the son of Fred W.C. and Mary I. Tyler Handy. He was a graduate of Newton High School in Conneticut. He served his country with the Army-Air Force during World War II.

On Feb. 12, 1945, he married the former Mary P. Golleski. He was employed as an aero-space technician for the Northrop Corporation in their space program.

He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Auburn.

His hobbies included music, especially bagpipes, camping, photography, art, woodworking, metal working, jewelry making, and inventing.

He leaves his wife, Mary P. Handy, of Greene; two daughters, Susan E. Brown and her husband Donald of Howland, and Bonnie I. Handy and her husband Jeffrey Pollard of Gray; one grandson, Robert K. Whitney of Howland; and one great-grandson, Timothy James Whitney.

He was predeceased by a grandson, James Whitney; three brothers; and one sister.
