LEWISTON – Semi-pro football returns to Lewiston for the first time since 1992 Saturday when the Central Maine Shockers open their inaugural season at Lewiston Athletic Park.

The Shockers begin the 2003 season playing the Seacoast Hawks from Portsmouth, N.H., a team founded in 1999. Last year, the Hawks were one of the top teams in the league.

Kickoff is 1 p.m.

Both teams compete in the New England Football League, which consists of 25 teams from Maine to Rhode Island.

The Shockers’ roster consists of several alumni from local high schools, including former Lewiston star Marvin Langley and Mt. Blue standout Jon McCabe. Former Oak Hill players Steve Coleman and Zach Stewart are the team’s co-owners.

Tickets are $3. Kids 12 and under get in free. LAP is located at 65 Central Ave., behind the Lewiston Armory and near St. Mary’s Hospital.
