AUBURN – Festival Fridays will continue with the U.S. Virgin Islands best-kept secret, “Inner Visions” reggae band. On a national tour, they will play at Festival Plaza at 7 p.m. Friday Aug. 1.

Phillip “Grasshopper” Pickering (guitar/lead vocalist), Paul “Ras Paul” Samms (percussion/lead vocalist) and Alvin “Jupiter” Pickering (bass/background vocals) compose the ensemble.

The band has headlined for the “Bob Marley Rastaman Vibration Tour 2002” and played at reggae festivals throughout the U.S.

All Festival Friday concerts are free to the public, as well as the Saturday Night At The Movies. This Saturday night the movie is “Stuart Little.”

LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon Area Widow Fellowship will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Graziano’s Restaurant for lunch at noon. All area widows are invited.

Ice cream social

LISBON FALLS – The Summer Reading Club will end the program with an ice cream social at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the library. Songwriter, singer and poet Annie Wenz will present “Music Around the World.”

Wenz spent most of 2000 backpacking around the world so she could learn about the music, art and culture of other countries. She will share her journey in music, stories, poems, rhythms and slides.

NEW GLOUCESTER – The Remember When Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Hodgdon’s across the street from the Amvets Hall for a picnic. The raffle tickets to raise funds for the club will be ready. They should be turned in at the Sept. 16 meeting.

MECHANIC FALLS – A weight loss open house will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at the Elm Street School. Those interested will learn about the Weight Watchers program.

AUBURN – New Auburn Seniors who plan to meet with the First Auburn Seniors at the Tot Lot picnic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, must purchase their tickets by Wednesday, Aug. 6. Cost is $2 for members only.

In case of rain, the picnic will be held at the Parks and Recreation Department at Pettengill Park.

GREENE – The Baptist Church of Green will present Vacation Bible School from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Aug. 13, 14 and 15, at the church, 102 Main St.

Roy named

LEWISTON – Ray Sisk of California, national commander-in-chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, announces his appointment of Arthur J. Roy, past state commander of the Department of Maine, VFW, to the National By-Laws, Manual of Procedure and Ritual Committee.

Roy will serve on the committee at the 104th national convention Aug. 23 to 29 in San Antonio, Texas.

He is serving as adjutant of the VFW post on Minot Avenue in Auburn, quartermaster of VFW District 9 and chairman of the Veterans Memorial Cemetery Association. He resides on Russell Street in Lewiston.

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on July 29 at the Multi-Purpose Center. North/South winners in Flight A were: Ed Oldham and Lucille Theriault; second, Martine Begert and Rosemarie Goodwin; third, Nick Karamessinis and Jane Fournier. Flight B winners were: first, Nick Karamessinis and Jane Fournier; second, Doug and Betty Sise.

East/West winners in Flight A were: David Lock and Patricia Garcia; second, Luke Merry and Nancy Lindgren; third, Randy Silver and Marguerite Zahoruiko.

Another game will be played at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the center. A partner is guaranteed.
