Farmington – Suzanne O’Brien has been appointed director of laboratory services at
Franklin Memorial Hospital, according to Mike Swan, FMH assistant vice president.
As director, O’Brien provides administrative leadership, personnel management and oversees laboratory services provided at the hospital to ensure quality standards.
O’Brien has over 20 years experience in the clinical laboratory as a microbiologist and medical technologist. She joined the laboratory staff of Franklin Memorial Hospital in 1992 as microbiology supervisor/senior technologist.
As supervisor, O’Brien was instrumental in developing the Laboratory Career Ladders program three years ago, which provides staff opportunities to further their personal and professional development through exemplary job performance, increased responsibilities, continuing education, and superior customer service.
“I hope to expand our services to meet our community’s needs, while at the same time maintain an enjoyable productive working environment in this beautifully renovated lab,” she said. “Last summer, the laboratory was renovated to provide a more efficient, up-to-date layout for the needs of today’s technology.”
O’Brien is a licensed medical technologist and a member of the Maine Microbiology Network, as well as the Northeast Association for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Zoology from the University of Maine at Orono, and later completed their Medical Technology Program in 1981.
O’Brien lives in Norridgewock with her husband, Michael. They are the parents of two college-age children, Patrick and Kathleen.
